'Castle Gateway' by Helen Wells
A photograph of a remaining gateway to Leicester Castle. Leicester Castle was built around 1070, either by William the Conqueror or by Hugh de Grandsmesnil, the first Norman lord of Leicester. The castle fell into decay in the middle ages but is survived by the Great Hall, Castle Gardens and St Mary de Castro church, which are all on the site.
