New arrivals
Different waves of migrants have had quite distinct experiences of migration to Leicester. In particular, those who were recruited from the Commonwealth to work in the city’s factories (Caribbeans in the 1950s and 60s, South Asians in the 1960s and 70s), may not have had the same experiences as more recent arrivals, such as Somalis who arrived in the 1990s and Eastern Europeans who have arrived in the last 10 years.
